About Jordan Hall

Howdy! My name is Jordan Hall and you’ve reached my website for some reason. Hope you are enjoying it. If you want, I have a few more details about this website. If you are looking for a more professional overview and less general prose, take a look at my biography or my skill and experiences section.

Technical

I’m a computer science graduate and currently working as a senior application developer. My technical interests include general programming, web applications, search engine optimisation, social media, artificial intelligence and general science and technology.

Interests

Aside from my technical interests, I play both electric and electro-acoustic guitars and general prefer improvisation. If I’m playing from paper, I prefer sheet music over tab, mainly because that is how I was taught and I find tab pretty awkward. I also do a fair bit of pencil drawing when I get the time, but that varies. I’ve tried digital art as well, but have never really got on to well with drawing on a PC, either via graphics tablet or just with a mouse – but maybe that is something I can get used to. I like reading occasionally as well. I do not get a lot of time to read large amounts of fiction but tend to like short story collections. One of my more recent reads was the Robot Collection by Issac Asimov, which was a read inspired by my re-watching of the very loosely based ‘I, Robot’ 2004 film. When I do read, it tends to be on my e-book reader now rather than hard-copy. I’ve tried writing fiction a couple of times but that did not go too far, so I generally stick to non-fiction and most of that consists of website content and articles, although I have been tempted to write a few e-books.

Music

“What music do you like?” That is one the both always used and over used small talk questions, but it can give you a good impression of what a person is like. My music taste is generally described as mainly within the indie genre by my friends, although I do like some classic rock such as Meat Loaf. I’ve also, quite recently, started to listen bits of pop-country style music. If you use the streaming music service Spotify, which I highly recommend, then you can view my main playlist which contains a huge varied selection is what I listen to most of the time. I’m not much of a radio listener anymore. Although I did used to go through a few phases of continued listening to the BBC radio stations I tend not to listen to the radio unless I’m travelling.

Writing

I like to do general article writing for websites, specifically my personal website. I used to have quite a significant archive of blog posts from my earlier years on a separate domain name, but decided to wipe that and restart from scratch with a more smart-casual writing style that I’m developing currently. The writings on this site are very varied, as it is personal I tend to write about anything that interests me and occasionally write articles for the sole purpose of experimenting with search engine optimisation. For other sites, I obviously tend to write within their niches. I often write technical tutorials on this website, which I promote though various social media, and tend to become my most popular articles. The writing of unique web content and its promotion is an interest of mine which developed alongside my technical interest in search engine optimisation, but is not the source of my interest in writing. I’ve always enjoyed intellectual discussion on large, heavily debated topics such as religion, science, philosophy and morals. This show through directly in some of my articles and more indirectly in others, such as my articles on artificial intelligence, which sometimes can encompass the ideas of machine rights and the related implications that could come from these potential rights.

And sometimes, just sometimes, I ramble on a bit. Oh, and I dislike making special and grammar errors, so if you spot one, feel free to put me in my place with a constructive comment.

Thanks for reading all the way to the end. If you want to chat, feel free to contact me.
