MySQL accepts this, but ignores it.

I tried your Persons example. It worked.
I did: INSERT INTO Persons (P_Id, LastName, FirstName, Address, City) VALUES ('-1', 'ln', 'fn', 'a', 'c');
It also worked.

MySQL ignores CHECKs...

"The CHECK value is not available until we support CHECK."

hey jordan, thanks for the intro. My question is how to get wine to treat the mounted file as d drive.
In wine config, I can tell wine what folder to look in for d:, but it doesn't seem to be able to get at the mounted file on the desktop. Is it possible to tell archive mounter to mount the files elsewhere than the desktop? Into the .media folder for instance?
thanks

Either pull out the RTC battery for 10 mins (if you know where it is, dont mind voiding your warrenty... blah blah)..

OR, just dont play on the PS3 until March 2nd (have a day off). The RTC thinks today is 29th of Feb, but the rest of the system thinks its the 1st of march, so its all confused and stuff.

Hope Sony can update the FW on these RTCs... or it could happen again. :(

I don't agree. While the Google's Web Apps may not be "Open" they are Free.

And with technology today nothing is really private. At least this way I'm not paying money to have my life broadcast.

Chrome OS isn't entirely open source. Don't forget that its primary purpose is to run non-Free web apps. None of Google's web apps are Free Software.

Also using Chrome OS and/or Google's web apps does have a price: your privacy.

It seems that in gnome at least with firefox 3.0.17 the about:config method doesn't work at all. I had to do

gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/spotify/command 'dir_to/spotify.sh %s' --type String

gconftool-2 --set /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/spotify/enabled --type Boolean true

and then choose the spotify.sh app in any case the first time I used a spotify link.

Spotify does not get focus in Windows either, but the taskbar indicates it wants attention, which is not the case in Ubuntu.

It is not really a big deal, I just thought I would mention it.

Wine output from a terminal window:
---------------------------------------------------
$ wine "$HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Spotify/spotify.exe" /uri "spotify:artist:2yzxX2DI9LFK8VFTyW2zZ8"
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on HDA ATI HDMI, disabling mixer
fixme:reg:GetNativeSystemInfo (0x745513) using GetSystemInfo()
fixme:toolhelp:CreateToolhelp32Snapshot Unimplemented: heap list snapshot
fixme:imagehlp:CheckSumMappedFile (0x26d0000, 2154492, 0x78e5d4, 0x78e5d8): stub
fixme:debugstr:CheckRemoteDebuggerPresent (0xffffffff)->(0x7929f0): Stub!
---------------------------------------------------

I have no idea what to make of it, but it seems you may be right.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with wine version 1.1.31 btw.

PS to the anyone having problems on Karmic; You may have to add a boolean "false" named "network.protocol-handler.expose.spotify" in about:config to get things going.

Glad it all works for you!

Regarding the focusing, does this behaviour differ from how it performs in Windows? If so, I would assume this is a bug in Wine. You can try different versions of Wine. Alternatively, run Spotify (via Wine) in a terminal, attempt what you are describing, and see if you notice any 'stub' or 'todo' output appear. If so, this would suggest the code to handle this refocusing is not yet implemented and may be in the works.

Tell me how it goes!

Great work dude, it works!

Only one question; Do you know if there is a way to focus the Spotify window when one clicks a link in firefox? When I click on a link Spotify does what it is supposed to, but the window does not pop to the front unless it is already minimized to the tray. If it only minimized or behind another window it does not get focus.

While I like the idea of the notification applet and your mockup looks very cool I hate the icon it uses.

Who came up with using the envelope as a stand-by icon? This is an icon that has been used by various email products for years to indicate that you have unread email.

At least in my opinion it is extremely distracting and one of the few things I dislike in the default Ubuntu installation.

Glad this is just a panel app.
I personally do not care for the idea of social network integration. I believe if people want to update such sites they can do so it other ways. "Old fashioned" ways or use 3rd party applications.

Tons of other things need to be worked on before Social integration.

Being open source means making your source code freely available, not permitting your code to be used in all applications. Restricting certain uses of your code does not disqualify your code as being closed source.

It is certainly a very vague condition to place in a license which is effectively a legal document. It seems mad in some sense that this is a concerning factor, but of course, it is completely logical and required for text which governs the use of software to be very specific and precise.

The single additional line changes the regular MIT open source license to a non-free license, due to the freedom 0 which DarwinSurvivor cites.

It is very interesting to see the comments this article is sparking. Thanks all.

I agree with William, that is a very vague restriction for a legal copyright notice. It also makes it non-free software due to rule #0 not applying "The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0)".

If a project claims to use license X, I expect them to use the official version of license X. I don't want to have to read every header of every file.

Even the phrase "The Software shall be used for Good, not Evil." is vague. Even today there are 2 opposing views on Guantanamo Bay. Some would argue gitmo is evil, while others claim it is needed to protect the US and so is a good thing. So can Douglass' code be used for apps connected to gitmo?

Many years ago I was looking at using Douglas Crockford's json.js script. I tried to explain to him the problems with his choice of licensing conditions. He wasn't interested in engaging with the issue.

There are many things in the world which I disagree with and would consider to be evil. I would like to be able to protest them through my work, but that isn't very practical via licensing terms. There is also a good chance me (or one of clients) could be caught up in someone else's protest based licensing terms. Although it is almost 5 years old, the FSF's take on the issue is relevant today, see the <a href="http://www.fsf.org/blogs/licensing/20050211.html" rel="nofollow">blog post from David "Novalis" Turner</a>.

I think Google is right on this one. If you want to find something to take issue with Google Code over, then complain to them about not allowing AGPL for hosted projects.

It's a valid reason. Technically it's not "open-source". While it may seem a silly argument, it's still legally not open-source and thus google is well within their rights to refuse to host it.

I have this working with Ubuntu Karmic, Firefox 3.5.5, Spotify 0.3.22 and Wine 1.0.1. The Wine version being the only obvious difference here may be the cause.

No luck I'm afraid. I do have the spotify.sh file marked as executable, checked via Nautilus.

I've been through all the steps again, double checking the path for Spotify, that I've replaced username with my log in name, and entered the correct names and values in Firefox about:config

Hi Stu. You're very right. For step three, you can open a new terminal, which should open to your home folder by default. Enter the command 'chmod +x spotify.sh' into the terminal to make the script executable.

If you wish, you can change the permissions of the script by right-clicking the 'spotify.sh' file in Nautilus, going to Properties -> Permissions and checking the 'Allow executing file as program' checkbox.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any more questions if you are still having issues.
